Mission Statement

p/art/icipate – Kultur aktiv gestalten

In accordance with the principles of the programme area, the eJournal p/art/icipate engages in the analysis of artistic and cultural practice and its contextual and communicative structures from an interdisciplinary point of view. We focus on the reflection and analyis of the development of cultural and artistic interventions and their strategies in (public) conditions.

Specific issues of  the eJournal p/art/icipate are presenting different points of view within the context of “Contemporary Arts & Cultural Production” and exemplify them by means of professional articles, documentations of projects, as well as additional tips and suggestions for further reading.

The eJournal depicts our complex discourse with contemporary artistic and social phenomena – in research, education and mediation. Our research work is closely connected with our teaching activities and with projects we are doing together with students and people engaged in the cultural sector inSalzburg. The eJournal is therefore a combination of theory and practice – some issues will be more theoretical, others will have a  more practical approach.

We always try to involve our colleagues, teachers, guest lecturers and students in our activities – as we do in this eJournal. Guest commentaries and texts from guest authors emphasize our claim to present different points of view and different approaches. Texts are published in German and English.

Fixed sections characterize the varied mixture of theory and practice and provide an overall navigation for each issue.

We would like to have an active discussion about the contents. Therefore, some of the texts have a feature for adding comments. The (future) rubric “Forum” will give an overview of these comments.

The eJournal is located in the program area Contemporary Arts & Cultural Production at the research focus area ‚Science and Art‘, a cooperation between the Paris Lodron University Salzburg and the University Mozarteum Salzburg. It will be published two times a year and is edited by the head of the programme area, Elke Zobl, and by Senior Scientist Siglinde Lang.

To guarantee a variety of perspectives, each issue will be coordinated by a different person who will be chosen based on his or her research and practice qualities. This person, together with the editor, will select the texts and is responsible for the professional editing of the texts.

Guest authors and editors are cordially welcome. This is why we announce the topics of the upcoming issues well in advance.

Please send your feedback, questions and ideas concerning the topics for the upcoming issues of p/art/icipate to Roswitha Gabriel.

The website of the programme area informs you about the publication of the newest issue.
